FIRST doctor appointment

I arrived at the doctor's office at 10:40 a.m., filled out paperwork, scanned my insurance card, and waited.. and waited. Finally KATHERINE was called at 11:03 a.m. Then I got weighed. Yikes! Is it too late to start dieting? lol. Then I went back with the nurse who handed me papers on 'lab workups' I need to get done before my next visit. She asked me a bunch of history on my side of the family and Dave's. She also provided me a lil goody baggie with 'new mom' stuff, phamplets, reading materials, birth defect screening, and pre-natal samples. No I don't have cats. Yes I'm taking prenatal vitamins. No I don't eat fish. Smoking is not a habit so I'm good. I rarely drink alcohol so check there. Then the doctor, Dr. Pete Weeks or something like that was his name, came in. "So I hear congratulations are in order..." I wondered how many times he's used that cheesy line.

I confirmed the date fo my last period, average cycle length, and went over what we'd be doing today and what we'd be doing standard every month until 30 weeks! He told me based on my date of my last period.. I was due 5/9/10 +/- 2 days. I found out I'd be getting an ultrasound today TOO:) YAY!!!!!! And I didn't have to give blood today. Is it my birthday? nah.. that was yesterday. :P How'd I get so lucky? So double gift for me today. Pete told me to go pee since the internal ultrasound would detect better with an empty bladder.

I peed.. then went into the new room.. then changed.. and waited what seemed like an eternity for the doctor to come in. I was nervous, anxious, and overall just terrified there'd be no heart beat. Truth be told. Just because I saw 2 plus signs on the pregnancy tests didn't mean I was pregnant.

11:50 a.m. +/- I saw the flicker!

It's 1 baby. No twins! Nuts. I was secretly hoping for a boy and girl. Pregnancies are hard and expensive so I figured I'd be Polish and get a BOGO. :)

I smiled from ear and to ear. REAL BIG. No tears here but I was really really happy to know I'm pregnant, the baby is alive, the heart is beating, and I'm officially due 5/7/11. The baby is measuring from head-to-rump 2 cm.

Hhhhhhhheeeeeeeerrrrrrreeeeeee'sssssssssss Georgie!

I'm lucky :)

Cha Cha Changes

It's been awhile since my last post. This past weekend was fun. Saturday morning was the first morning I woke up and actually felt pregnant. I was really emotional as Ernie was really sick. So I spent all morning cleaning up puke and diahrea from Ernie. I had to put him in the bathroom as he would not stop getting sick. Poor thing! Then at 9:45 a.m. I went over to Sondie's SKIN INSTITUTE place for a facial. I was really emotional and crying as Ernie was sick, it was raining outside, and I was overall just feeling uncomfortable. Sondie and I talked and she did a great job giving me a facial.. she'll be a great aesthitician one day! My back was incredibly sore this morning.

Then I drove over to Julie's to pick up the quilt! It turned out spectactular.

Afterwords, I packed up the dogs & went over to my parents house and slept over. We barbeque'd and relaxed and the dogs just played. On Sunday, I woke up, Lauren and I drove up to Kildeer for Leah's baby shower. It was nice there. I told Leah last week I was pregnant so it was funny seeing her sister in law Jackie, her best friend Colleen, and her parents Roger & Kathy congratulate me. They are all so nice. The baby shower was very classy and cute. Leah got loads of stuff for Baby M! :)

After the baby shower, I groomed Bert & Ernie. Now they aren't such fluffer-nutter dogs! It's always takes awhile to groom. My back killed me again after the grooming.

Sunday I drove back home to Naperville and watched the season finale to TRUE BLOOD! It was fantastic. :) I love this show!

Bloatarama

I'm going to try and write down what I've been up to lately and fill in the voids, feelings, changes I'm feeling since the big reveal on 8-30-10.
Last week, I went out with the girls to Chevy's for some Mexican food on Wednesday. It was sooooo tasty and it was good to laugh a lot! :) It was hard keeping the secret from Becca and friends but I knew everything was still so soon to spill beans. We caught up and laughed a lot. Those girls know so much about the kardashians, reality tv, jersey shore, and all that tabloid crap. It's so much fun to just gab! :)

On Thursday the 2nd, I went out with Carla/Gabby/Kim/Marissa from LTF. It was great to see some of them. I haven't seen some of them in like 2 months so it was nice to catch up finally and laugh a lot. I ate so much this night! Definately for 2. Rock Bottom ultimate sampler appetizer is delish! This night was a little easier to keep the secret since the girls weren't drinking $3.00 maragaritas like last night :) haha. :)

Friday night, I went to Chicago to Hackney's with Kelly, Andrew and his gf, Kristin. It was lovely to see all of them. We reminisced about IU, fall, work, vacations, and it was really great! Kelly came back on the Metra with me to Naperville. I didn't tell her about the baby yet because I figured again, too soon to tell. :) It was tough though. I had to hide the evidence in the house like the pregnancy tests, the prenatal vitamins... she asked why there was a thermometer out? I said I take my temperature a lot. Not a lie... but not the whole truth. ;/ I'll make sure to tell her when I'm a few more weeks along :)

Sunday, the 5th I went to Lisa's wedding stag. Dave had to work at Outback so I knew this would be an event to figure out. On my way to the Museum of Contemporary Art, I called Lauren to tell her the good news as I was combusting inside. I HAD TO TELL!!! LOL. She was shocked, excited, and had some really helpful and insightful words.. as she is a momma x2. The wedding went well, I was really tame and kept to myself because I didn't want to be a social butterfly and then explain why I wasn't drinking. I was dreading that question! Thankfully.. no one asked :) Phew! It was a fun night and Lisa looked stunning! I came just before midnight and crashed.

Monday, was ANOTHER social event. LoL. HAD I KNOWN I WOULD BE PREGNANT I would not have planned so many social nights out. Geez! Oh well... I love friends! We had 2 barbeques to go to on Labor Day. We went to Joey T's first... and it was lovely. He has such a nice home and really lovely friends :) There were a few babies there so I was exploding inside because all I wanted to do was hold them, see them, and coochie-coo play with them. LoL. I restrained myself to avoid the 'EYE'. Dave did a nice job getting me water, fruit, and dodging any questions. We brought Bert and Ernie with us so I sat down on the carpet and made sure the dogs weren't bugging the babies there or causing any mischief. Then, after Joe's.. we went to my parents house at 4:00. Mom made yummy steak (well done of course ;)) and corn on the cob and baked potato!! MMM. My inlaws came, as did Brandon... BRANDON WAS THE FIRST PERSON WE TOLD WE WERE PREGNANT AND IN PERSON! It was a joy seeing him react in person. I highly recommend telling people in person and not over phone. It's really quite a remarkable memory to make. I'm hoping to tell my friends in person and not over the phone from now on :)

So now, that the hustle-and-bustle of Labor Day is over.. I'm taking it easy and keeping my planning/hanging out with friends to a minimum. I got an email from the bump.com that said I am 5 weeks along... but another one from babycenter.com today that said I'm 6 weeks along. If I had to place bets I'm thinking I'm 4 weeks along only. LOL. We'll see when the due date comes..

9/29/10 cannot come sooner. I can't wait to meet my OB and ask him questions.

My "great Expectations book" was delivered finally. Thank you bump.com for recommending the book and Ebay for the low price, $7.95 w/ shipping! I also picked up 3 books on SUnday while walking down Michigan Avenue before Lisa's wedding.

Update:

Georgie (our baby's ambiguous name) has been to...

  1. Atlantis, Bahamas

  2. Downtown Chicago

things to look forward to..

  • pumpkin patch rides

  • Festival of Lights downtown

  • Orlando, Florida for NYE

Addition is better than subtraction

Monday was August 30, 2010 and I was going about my day and I was curious as to why I had not gotten my period yet. The date of my last period was August 2nd and my last cycle was 22 days only so I figured I should have received it between August 24-30th for sure. I had used up the last of my pregnancy tests and the last 2 I took were blank and had no sign for pregnancy. So after work, I went to Target to buy some new OPK and pregnancy tests so we could try again in September.

Only thing was, I took my test around 6:00 p.m. and had just gotten off the phone with my gf, Sondie. And I took the test, then slowly I saw the plus sign! Addition! It was a crazy moment! I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT. I immediately called Dave and he was rather aloof and soft spoken.. and 'said congrats hun.. but don't get too excited it could be a bad test', "you should take another one in a couple days" but overall he was happy but in disbelief too!

Then I called my mom and told her the good news. She was in shock and said "oh no!". LOL. She was completely in shock because no one knew we were trying. We kept it to ourselves. So, my mom became really worried and started asking questions about my health insurance. I reassured her everything was just fine and to be supportive. So she said congratulations.. and my dad found out through my mom. :) It was nice!

Dave came back around 9:30 that night after he was done with his Monday night Briefings with PrePaid Legal, and I showed him the test. He was still really shocked and indisbelief. It had not set in that we were pregnant, and going to have a baby. So we tried to call Dave's parents to give them the good news but after multiple attempts on the phone, no one picked up. Oh well. There's always tomorrow. So we went to bed!

So I did the math and I think we conceived the 2nd week of August sometime... so add 40 weeks.

Here's what I can look forward to... I typed this in on www.babycenter.com
