Memorial Day Weekend

This weekend was Owen's first memorial day weekend! It has been very very rainy here in IL.. I haven't had to water my flowers since last Wednesday.. and tomorrow is Wednesday! That's how rainy it has been.

So, Dave & I went to the movies for our first date night on Friday. Owen stayed behind with grandma Linda and grandpa Ted. On Saturday, we took it easy and relaxed.

On Sunday, we drove up north to see Grandma & Grandpa Reid, Jerry/Stacy/cousin Mason, and the dogs... Chewy, Bert, Ernie, and CHARLIE! We had a bbq at 4:00 and it was a full house! We brought over some corn and mom took care of everything. She cooked ribs, chicken, italian sausage, and polish sausage. We also had baked potatoes and corn-on-the-cob and salad. My parents are wonderful.. they cooked everything and even cleaned up after us. It was very nice and considerate for them to cater to us! Owen was great.. he was up a lil bit for the party but was pretty snoozy later.  Bert behaved and didn't bite Mason! LOL! Granted we kept Bert locked upstairs when Mason was moving and shaking.

This weekend I witnessed 3 firsts, for Mason. Mason is CRAWLING and Mason tried ice cream on Sunday and Mason can wave. It was cute to see Mason on the floor. He is very playful, laughy, coos, and can raspberry his mouth to make it sound like 'vrrrrooom' like a car! Cute! My dad was very anxious seeing Ernie play in front of a crawling Mason, in the family room. Thankfully, Ernie was really good with a crawling baby. Ernie kept bringing toys to Mason. Mason's dog, Charlie, was really aloof about the whole weekend and kind of just stood behind the scenes and wasn't at all protective of Mason. Crazy to me since Bert is such a protector of us! I'm thankful that Charlie isn't like Bert! Stacy gave Mason (9 months) vanilla ice cream and Mason LOVED it! He made some faces at first.. but enjoyed the cold treat with each spoonful! Ha! :) It was a cute site.

The rainy weather has produce high levels of water.. my parents backyard has a creek which is usually dried up.. well not on Sunday!

Here are some pix of Mason (9 months) and Ernie and Grandpa Reid playing ball in the family room!

Mason is officially bigger than Ernie

Ernie, Chewy, and Mason!

Mason is dad's clone.. in my opinion. hah! At dinner, we broke out an old album of my dad from his baby years/toddler years/ children years.. he and Mason share a very close resemblance! It's crazy!

My dad is teaching the 'hang loose' sign one uses in Hawaii.. Mason can wave now!

Waving Mason! His mom, Stacy is waving back.

Ernie! I groomed him on Wednesday, in my backyard.. still have to do the paws and undercoat still.

My mom may be 66 but she does not act it! My mom has so much energy... she prepped all the fix ins..  cooked for us... served us... and did the dishes and cleaned up... then, she even managed to be the only one to really get on the floor and play with Mason!

On Monday, we went over the Nash's for a bbq as well! Back-to-back bbqs! Dave didn't take any pix with our camera so I have nothing to post... sadly! Mr. Owen was again back to his bad, old habits of trying to nap.. So we kept him up and kept prodding and poking him to keep him awake during the day so he sleeps better at night. Ted grilled up some chicken! We also had some yummy salad, fruit salad, cheesecake, chocolate cake, chips'n'salsa, baked potato and grilled veggies.  Too much food! A very yummy bbq indeed.. THE WEATHER WAS FANTASTIC THIS DAY. We spent a few hours outside in the Nash backyard and even Owen had some 'sun' time.. in the shade of course. It was like sunny and 88 degrees compared to the rainy overcast Fri/Sat/Sunday we experienced. I even got some color! Just a smidge. It was sooooo hot on Monday. But I'm sure all the kiddos were having a blast playing in their backyard/blow up pools or going to the park district for the first day of 'pool season' to kick off!

I can't wait until Owen is 9 months old so we can get him in a bathing suit and ready for swim lessons. Dave's dad, mentioned putting Owen in their above-ground pool this summer. I doubt we'll do that since Owen can't wear sunblock yet but it was a nice thought :) Maybe next summer 2012! In 2 weeks, my nephew Mason is going to be in a pool for the first time. He is taking swim lessons! It'll be super cute for the cousins to play and be lil swimmers together. We'll have tons of fun memories I'm sure. Even more bbq's to attend and pools to visit. :) :)

Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Thanks go to my Dad (navy) and late Uncle Alan (army) who served our country!
